Attar by Montale

*****
Year: 2004

Notes: Bulgarian rose, Mysore sandalwood
Attar is a wonderful fusion of sandalwood and rose, which successfully manages to showcase the spicy aspect of the rose in conjunction with the creamy properties of the sandalwood. It's also smooth, elegant and easier to wear than the challenging Black Aoud. However, on the other hand, it's sweet, linear and slightly more feminine than unisex (not that this should prevent any heterosexual male from wearing and enjoying it).

With some lingering doubts about the inclusion of any oud or even saffron, the only personal reservations one has are its longevity (in other words, it's not as tenacious as some of Montale's better offerings) and the sense that the sandalwood could have been more prominent during the drydown (but, if Mysore sandalwood really has been used, one should be extremely thankful for the inclusion of this now extremely rare wood).

It's sophisticated, romantic and alluring all at once, and is definitely one of Montale's best releases.
